Today’s post is for kids who want to make flossing a habit. The dentists at Aspen Ridge Dental in Casper WY want you to make flossing a part of your dental health routine, so your teeth, gums, and smile are healthy and happy.
Is flossing more important than brushing? Well, no. We think they’re about equal. Both are really important to dental health.
Brushing and flossing is important because it removes plaque from your teeth. Plaque is a sticky substance that forms as food breaks down in your mouth. If it isn’t brushed away, it can harden into tartar, and cause tooth decay.
We generally advise using a length of ordinary dental floss. But when you’re just getting started, it’s okay to use a floss holder. Work the little piece of floss between the gaps in your teeth and dig out any debris you find there.
If you want to, you can find flavored floss. That makes flossing more enjoyable. We’ve seen fruit flavored and mint flavored floss in the oral care products aisle at the grocery store.
Should you floss before you brush, or after? It really doesn’t make much of a difference. Some people have strong opinions one way or the other . We think the important thing is that you do both.
